The Fourth Industrial Revolution (industry 4.0) is the ongoing transformation of industry using modern smart technology. Since Rio Tinto Aluminium Pechiney delivered its Smelter 4.0 vision in 2016, significant progress has been made in the field of automation, remote support, mobility and advanced control systems.
When we talk about automated transport, what comes first to mind is a vehicle without a cabin and able to drive itself to carry out its transport missions.
Our strength lies in the synergies we create with our colleagues and partners. Internally, the teams (LRF, Aluval and CRDA) work closely with the smelters of the Rio Tinto group and… the Growth & Innovation group. Externally, we have a network of industrial and academic partners on whom we rely to combine our know-how.
Year 2020 challenged us in unexpected ways and to keep our momentum in supporting the smelters, we have had to embrace innovative solutions, create new means or accelerate emerging solutions to reach out to our client sites around the world, to perform inspection or acceptance test and run training sessions.
